This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students enrolled in this middle school are bright, eager, and curious scholars with a desire for learning. Most of these students will be first-generation college students: they know and understand that education is the key to success.

The books in the library should be in decent condition, contain accurate information, and be relevant and engaging.

Though these students live in a poverty-stricken community, their lives are filled with a wealth of resiliency, persistence, and determination. These students deserve to have a library that is a safe, inviting, comfortable space where they can come to read, work independently, or in groups.

My Project

Middle school students often struggle with their identities and accepting themselves as they are. Body positivity and body acceptance can take a toll on young minds who might feel insecure or unsure about their physical appearance. Many students might feel overwhelmed and alone when they struggle to see and accept themselves with perceived flaws and imperfections.

I am requesting books that promote body positivity and acceptance.

These books are crucial tools for middle school readers who deserve to feel loved and accepted just as they are. The books in this project will help students see that others might feel the same way they feel.

Characters like Ari in "All of Me" and Genesis in "Genesis Begins Again" will take students on journeys of self-discovery as they learn to embrace their bodies and appearance. Though it can take time to get to a place where students embrace themselves, these books are a great place to start.
