Books About AAC: Communication is More Than Spoken Words
Help me give my students books that educate others about alternative forms of communication for students that are non-speaking or have limited communication.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Sara's classroom raised $240
This project is fully funded
My Project
Our non-speaking students read book after book featuring children that communicate verbally; never seeing themselves reflected in a book character. By introducing books that feature students that use alternative forms of communication to our classrooms, we can normalize these alternative methods (i.e. sign language, core boards, communication devices, etc.) for the non-speaking students in our school, the limited verbal communicators, and all staff and students.
Supporting students with complex communication needs is an important part of creating educationally and emotionally inclusive classrooms.
Supporting alternative forms of communication is necessary to build effective reading, writing, social-emotional, and general communication skills for our students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
