This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love to read. Many of them did not start out that way. Having books at home that they can connect to each other with over the summer will go a long way toward reinforcing their book joy. My goal is to keep the students reading and keep them active in book club over the summer. This will increase their chances of continuing to participate in book club once we return to school in the fall.

I have an interesting, opinionated group of students in this book club!

They are all junior girls who mostly love romantasy. But they are all willing to branch out into other genres...as long as one of their friends does the book recommendation! They worked together to choose the books that they plan to read this summer. I am so proud of them for agreeing on these titles.

I want my students to love books. At least once a month, I will provide coffee, hot chocolate or a snack during our meetings. The girls get a kick out of pretending they are in a cafe while they have these heated story discussions/debates! I think a fun book mark and a snack can only make reading an even more enjoyable activity for them. My book club certainly does seem to get a kick out of the extras.
