This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a school social worker in a low-income school, the daily challenges that my students face both in and out of the classroom never cease to amaze me; however, they show up, learn, and grow into unique individuals. My students range in age from Pre-K to 8th grade and range in levels of intervention needed. I work with both general and special education students allowing me to support students of various abilities and needs.
My students are resilient, full of strength, and highly adaptable to any environment.
My students benefit from having a well-rounded set of supports to ensure their success. When working with my students, I frequently look for innovative ways to support their growth and success both in and outside the classroom. My students encourage me to utilize creativity and innovation and are regularly teaching me new things through our interactions together. My students are insightful, kind, and above all, amazing people. They indeed are the best.
My Project
Have you ever read that book that you couldn't, or didn't, want to put down? The availability of a variety of books is very scarce in my school. Many of my students often experience this due to an inadequate number of books to take home. As a product of the 3rd largest school district in the nation and a member of the diverse community in my school, I have observed the challenges my students face in and out of school.
As a school, we are looking at innovative ways to promote a love of reading.
We have purchased a book vending machine to help cultivate a love of reading and get children exciting about reading. Students will earn tokens to choose books by participating in our school's reward program. This system will support both reinforcing positive behavior and fostering a love for reading. With your help, our school can welcome this innovative, inspiring product and begin reaping the benefits immediately! Literacy skills are critical in our everyday lives. With your help, our school will be able to fill this machine with a wide variety of books, promoting reading at school and home and a new excitement for books.
