Book Tasting with Wit & Wisdom 2

Help me give my students a "BOOK TASTING" event to launch our second third-grade Wit and Wisdom Space-Themed literacy unit.

My Project

Our 3rd grade is launching new curriculum by Wit & Wisdom based on texts about space. This is a challenging curriculum, so why not get the students exposed to the genre with a "Book Tasting" event! The students will explore the different genres of books to promote a love of reading. As they "taste test" books, they will use rocket flashlights to read, they will rank the books according to what stands out, if it seems interesting, and/or if they would recommend the books to others. The goal is to foster a love and respect for literature and art.

While the students "sample" the new books, they will have an "out of this world" experience eating snacks to get them launched into reading.

Space include Pop Rocks, dehydrated ice cream sandwiches, and freeze-dried corn. Our students are special and diverse in so many ways, they would benefit from the special "book tasting" to increase exposure to our new theme. Our grade has many students new to the country from many parts of the world. They are English Language Learners. This project will make a difference in their learning by experiencing an exciting literacy launch party.
