My Students

My students are enthusiastic fifth graders who are eager to learn. They mostly enjoy math, science, and reading! Our school is a project based learning school, located in a major city where poverty levels are high. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, many of which also receive weekly bags of food from the food pantry. Most of my students do not have basic necessities at their fingertips, and they come to school looking for a stable environment where they know they are taken care of.

My Project

This year, we were given brand new classroom libraries. We were given texts from all different genres, texts on all different levels, and texts about many interests my students have. The only problem is - our books are now OVERFLOWING!

I was provided one book shelf, which houses about half of the books in our entire library.

Right now, books are scattered around the room in baskets organized by lexile level, but they make the room look sloppy. Books in baskets are difficult to keep neat, and they are tough to search through! I want my students to have their books organized on shelves just as they would be when they enter a public library!
