My Students
My students attend a Title I school in Oklahoma. We have a student population of 700+ with a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. They come from large, single-parent families. They love school and the stability it provides. They come to school every day excited and ready to learn. They are ready to keep up with their peers and excel in their learning. My students will overcome any obstacle put in their paths! I am moving to teach 5th grade next year.
My Project
I will be teaching 5th grade reading and language arts for the first time next year. I will have three different classes made up of about 75 students. I want to focus on book studies to create a love of reading. We only have a class set of each book so all three classes will be sharing the materials. These books will give students a central place to find materials. We will not be losing instructional time to search in desk and piles for lost books. Book studies can be used to teach story elements such as setting, characters, and plot which my students need work on.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
