it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever had to share a book and your partner reads much faster than you? That's what happening in our classroom.
I teach a third grade monolingual class.
Our school is located in a high-need, low income community where English is NOT the dominant language of most of our students. Many of our third graders love to challenge themselves when reading. They work very hard to improve their reading abilities and they love to read with their friends. They will be taking the New York State Exams this year for the first time. I want to provide my students with books they enjoy, and I want them to be able to have their own copy to read at whatever pace they are at.
My Project
These resources will change my students' lives because they will increase their motivation and love for reading. My students love to read with their friends, but when we don't have enough copies then that becomes a challenge. The listening CD's that are included with the book sets will allow me to differentiate based on my students' learning styles. They can also enjoy the book as it is being read to them.
Donations to our project will make a difference in how my students engage during reading time.
They will see it as a time in which they can escape the real world and get lost in a book, whether they read it independently or listen to it on CD.
