Help me give my students high interest novels to increase their reading outside of class.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Stith's classroom raised $506

My Project
I have remedial students for the first time next year that includes students who have failed both English I and II STAAR test. Part of our department strategy is to have them read more and interact with text by writing on a daily basis. In order to do that, we will need books!
My plan is to find high interest books for our students who do not read outside the classroom.
Our school does not have the funding to provide these materials for students, however, they are necessary to improve their ability to read and write. Because some students have developed the ability to avoid encountering the language on a daily basis (they listen instead of reading for themselves), they struggle to read it on their own. If we can get them to practice, willingly, with a high interest book, their ability to process words and meaning will increase on its own.
Our goal is to help students improve their reading and writing abilities and pass the STAAR I and II, which are necessary to graduate. But mostly, we want them to be able to read and write on their own so they can navigate the world and express themselves to the best of their ability.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
