Book Set & Biographies Inspire Students to Be Difference Makers

My students need the Scholastic Scope Courage and Resilience Text Set and related biographies to learn about courageous difference makers and be inspired to become the same.

My Students

Our Title 1 urban middle school is home to almost 700 students. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and situations.

Many of our students don’t have experiences beyond their neighborhood, so opportunities to expose them to the world through literature and school are valuable.

Our kids are bright, resourceful, and full of energy. They are also natural problem solvers who are growing in their ability to make good choices. These middle schoolers have the potential to become leaders in our community and country. I appreciate your partnership to investing in their education and growth!

My Project

Theodore Roosevelt reminded us, "The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future." We live on the foundation of courageous and resilient people, some already gone and some still living. Yet, most of my students don't know those names let alone their influence and impact. It would be incredible to bring some of their stories to my 7th and 8th grade students!

These requested text sets are not only chock full of rich text, visuals, and primary sources to inform and inspire, but they also provide resources for me to help the kids grow as critical thinkers, close readers, and position defenders.

With themes like what hardship reveals about the human spirit, the power of community, how individuals respond to injustice, and failure as a valuable experience, the Scholastic Scope Text Set will offer relevant, meaningful learning to hundreds of students through the years. In addition, the individual biographies are the perfect length for in class group learning as well as individual reading for early finishers.

I can't wait for my students to read the stories of people like them who made a difference in a world like theirs so they can see how it's possible for them to do the same! THANK YOU for widening their scope!!
