My Students

Imagine not having exposure to a wide variety of reading material in your home or school. Imagine not having the opportunity to visit your public library with your parents as a child. The students in our school rely on us to provide engaging reading material.

My students attend a public school in a very large district.

We have around 500 students in k-5, and a majority of our population lives at the poverty level. Our students are enthusiastic about learning, and enjoy having the attention, efforts, and kindness of their teachers.

My Project

These resources will provide additional selections to our book room supply of guided reading sets. These will be shared among all teachers as needed to enhance the reading program in our school across grade levels. The materials will span a wide range of interest levels for boys and girls, and will assist and engage struggling readers. The students will use these books to broaden their reading skills in fluency and comprehension, as well as increase their knowledge and interest of literature and non-fiction content.

This project will allow my students to experience a world of fantasy through reading - teaching them to be creative, visualize, and lose themselves in literature.

This project will allow my students to improve their reading skills in an enjoyable way, through fiction and non-fiction selections they are reading and sharing with their teachers and peers. These books will provide a springboard for class and small group discussions - higher level thinking skills and creative writing.
