Help me give my students a Book of the Month Club with books in English and Spanish and a button maker and beads that will be create the reward that they can proudly wear on their backpack!
Students and families will be encouraged to read together as a family each month with our Book of the Month library program. I hope to postively shape students' perceptions of themselves as readers and help create a family tradition of reading together.
Books will be available in English and Spanish, as our school is a dual language school where many of the families speak Spanish at home.
Each month a different book will be promoted. Once the student/family have finished the book, they will notify the librarian (me) and the student will receive a bead to add to their Book Club keychain. The first month that a student participates, they will receive a "L.H.E.S. Book of the Month" tag made with the buttonmaker along with that month's pony bead color. Each month they participate, another bead will be added to their keychain.
The items that I asked for in this grant include multiple copies of each book in English and in Spanish, keychains, pony beads to represent each month and a button maker to create the Book of the Month Tags. This grant will not cover all the books we need, but it's a good start. Some books are not available through this site. I will be looking for further funding from other sources.
