This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a teacher in a high poverty/low income school, students are faced with numerous challenges before they even enter the school doors each day. Regardless of what is occurring at home, school can be a wonderful place for students to take a break from some of their hardships. I am fortunate enough to work at a school where we focus on building positive relationships and helping each student grow not only academically, but emotionally and providing them with the tools to succeed in and out of the classroom.
Our school is working to improve early literacy and to support this I would like to set up an area in my classroom where students can come to choose various genres of books they can enjoy.
I currently have a variety of titles of books, but not a great way to display them in the classroom. If they are displayed well, students will be more eager to read. WIth this bookshelf, I can change books often to keep interest levels high. It will also give students the opportunity to read with other classmates. I want my students to have special place in our classroom where the can feel excited about reading!
