Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

6th grade is a very special time. My students have grown from young elementary schoolers to grown-up middle schoolers in a matter of months. It's a BIG transition for them, and I do everything I can to make that transition smooth and comfortable.

I teach in a Title 1 school in Florida where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch, which is absolutely amazing!

It would be hard to describe my students as a whole group, because they are all incredibly unique. Some are outgoing, social butterflies, and others are shy and slowly but surely emerging from their cocoons. Many of them spend their days working hard at school, and when they get home, help their equally hardworking parents by taking on adult responsibilities such as providing care for younger siblings and cooking for their families. They are incredible!

My Project

In my classroom, I am committed to making my students feel comfortable and cared for every day. Many of my students struggle with reading, so I want to create a cozy place to dig into a great book!

I have selected a few book shelves to stock with the books on my list that will draw my students' attention and get them excited about reading.

I've also included in my project 2 comfy chairs to add to the atmosphere of the "book nook" I'm designing for them.

Reading more will help my kids gain a larger vocabulary and all students deserve a place to relax and fall in love with books! I know this project will be an integral part of sparking that passion for reading in so many young minds this year and in the years to come.
