Book Lovers Paradise

My Students

I teach 5th grade ELA and Science at a STEM Academy in Georgia. I teach a wide range of students from EIP to Gifted but all my students are very talented in their own ways. We strive to do as much learning through STEM/STEAM activities as possible and my students love using problem-solving strategies and hands-on lessons. We also try to integrate our curriculum as much as possible so in my room we teach many reading skills through the science material to help reinforce both subjects.

I'm always on the lookout for creative and beneficial ways to meet my students' needs.

Many of my students come from low-income communities and were accepted to my school based on academic performance. They have a passion for learning but lack the resources they need to be successful. Help me help my students to reach their full potential!

My Project

I have a very diverse group of students with a wide range of reading levels. I strive to have books in my classroom library that can represent any student who enters my classroom. My goal is to help my students learn to love reading and I believe I can achieve that by providing an abundance of options for them. When students see characters that are similar to them portrayed in books it helps them feel excited and inspired, it allows them to feel proud of their identity, and they can build connections to what they are reading.

The first step to helping kids build reading fluency is helping them build a love of reading.
