Book Into The Future #1

My students need 34 copies of "The Hundred Dresses" and the teacher guide to understand diversity and importance of culture.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Karapetian's classroom raised $333

This project is fully funded

I currently teach a split class full of fourth and fifth grade students. Due to the budget cuts there were a lot of teachers who were laid off which resulted our school to have a split classroom for the first time in 12 years. Our school has always tried to avoid splits because we know it's not the best thing for the students.

Because of the fact that each grade level has its own standards, I am asked to teach both grades within the same classroom. This is a great challenge all by itself. I have to make sure all of my students get exactly what they need in order to perform well on the California state assessments. In order to do this I give students independent assignments while I work with the other grade. But for literature, I have decided to focus on the same book in order to have more discussions and help students understand literature.

In order to teach my students different styles of writing (author's purpose) and help them with comprehension, writing and understanding the different genera's of literature and how to distinguish them apart. In order to accomplish my goal, I have decided to use core literature books for the entire class to work together and discuss the selections. Since the language arts standards are very similar, I have chosen a story that will address the fourth and fifth grade standards. This first set of books that I'm asking for are for the book "The hundred dresses". This book focuses on cultural differences and yet teaches the students how we are very similar. This will tie in perfectly with our "Heritage" unit.

This is the first set of many sets of literature books I am asking for in order to address my students needs and give them the proper education they are entitled to. Please help us by making this possible for my students. They are eager fourth and fifth graders who are anxious to read and learn. Thank you for your time and support!
