Mrs. Santulli from Brooklyn NY is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need this book shelf to display books we are reading each month related to specific units of study so that they do not have to dig them out of a box.

I am a kindergarten teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. I work in Brooklyn, New York in a self-contained auditory/oral classroom.
The majority of my students were late-aided, late-diagnosed which affects their ability to communicate.
Many of my students are coming to kindergarten as first time hearing aid users and have had no early intervention to develop language and foundational skills essential for kindergarten.
In school, the students are taught using an auditory/oral approach which teaches the children to use hearing and speech to develop spoken language for communication and learning. Due to the fact that they were late identified as being deaf/hard of hearing (some students at close to 4 years old) they have an extremely limited vocabulary and struggle to communicate.
In addition to their physical, emotional, and learning challenges, many of my students live in poverty (100% qualify for free lunch.) My students often lack access to resources at home, therefore we would like to provide opportunities and the tools necessary for them to learn and be successful at our school.
Students are encouraged to read books related to each theme each month. Currently, students have to choose theme/unit related books out of a box (which is not always so appealing to a kindergarten learner). Our classroom is in need of a better system.

If our classroom had a way to neatly display theme/unit related books each month it would increase students drive to learn and read new books! Students in my classroom lack access to good books at home, so it's important to maximize their interest in reading during school hours. Our current system is not appealing enough for students.
