Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every year, our classroom sizes grow and our need for more copies of the texts we use as central parts of our curriculum and study are needed. This project helps us reach the numbers for these four texts that would allow each student to have a copy to hold, read, study, and revisist as needed. All of these texts are centrally important to the questions that we ask in class about how we live in relationship to the world around us, and how we develop our own storytelling voices.
In the past, when we've read these books, students have invoked time and time again, how impactful these stories are and how much they mirror their own lives and expand their thinking and understanding of the world.
Additionally, every one of these texts is a template for the youth to study and use as example for how they can create their own stories in the graphic novel format, the poetry format and the short story form.
