My Students

Every year it is hard to say goodbye to a group of students, and then every year I am absolutely blown away by my new students! Part of student engagement and learning really has to do with relationships and establishing connections with the students. I say this every year, but nonetheless, my students this year are exceptionally near and dear to my heart! It is so wonderful to see classrooms filled with students!

Trust between teachers and students is the glue that holds the classroom together.

Without trust, students will not be willing to take chances and step outside of their comfort zones. It is important to me to build trust with students and make them feel seen, heard and valued. This, to me, is what it's all about; establishing trust that will plant seeds of confidence and courage!

My Project

These books will be great for our Social Issues Book Clubs! I have chosen books which include a variety of different social issues such as racial and ethnicity issues, immigration issues, physical and mental disability issues, family issues, loss issues and bullying issues. I have also carefully selected books from a range of reading levels to ensure struggling readers' needs are met, as well as readers who are exceeding grade levels! There truly is something for everyone!

What I love most about book clubs is listening to student led discussions.

Students are given a chance to understand, analyze, apply and share insights with one another. This not only encourages dialogue between students, but it also allows students to make similar connections, therefore strengthening classroom community!
