Book Clubs Without Any Books?!?!

Help me give my students brand new sets of duplicate books to help them deepen their conversations during our book club unit next month.

My Students

This year, I teach a class of 24 ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) First graders. Forty percent of my class is special education and sixty percent is general education. My school is in a changing neighborhood in New York City. My students have many different learning and management needs in order to ensure a successful educational endeavor.

My students are intelligent and eager to learn.

I am trying to pass on my love for reading to this class, but, as a result of low reading levels and a few interesting books, this has been very challenging. I am trying to create a collaborative classroom that adheres to all of the varied interests of my students.

My Project

We are beginning book clubs next month and we are having a hard time putting together sets of the same books or books from the same series for the students in our classroom. Since we are an ICT class, we have a wide range of reading levels and need books from series that will peak our students' interests.

Book clubs are meant to help students deepen their comprehension and ability to discuss the characters and ideas in the books they are reading.

My students are so excited to begin our book clubs, but sadly, I am having a lot of trouble putting together sets of the multiple copies of books from the same series at the independent levels at which my students are currently reading.
