This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many students do not get the opportunity to visit the library. They do not have books at home to read. Others have books but the books are not matched to their reading level. Often the books are too difficult and the students get frustrated and give up reading. My students would benefit from participating in book clubs.
My Project
Book Clubs would foster my students love of reading. The leveled books would allow my students to choose a "just right" book. I have found it to be very helpful pairing my students with a "just right" book. This is a book that is matched to the student's reading level. It is a book that is not too hard or too easy for the student to read. The students would be able to read the books independently. Each student would participate in a book club with their peers.
Students would take ownership of their book club.
They decide how many pages to read in school and how many pages to read at home. As students read, they will use post-it notes to record questions and their thoughts.
Book clubs will be a great motivation to foster my students love of reading. Learning to read is a skill that all children need. Please donate to this project. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Help to make a difference in a child's life.
