My Students

My students love to read. Our mornings are filled with a variety of literacy activities, including our favorite part of the morning, the instructional read aloud. After that, they love to participate in "book clubs."

My students are a diverse group of learners who come to school every day eager to learn and grow.

Our school has a free and reduced price lunch rate of over 57%, and for many students, English is their second language. Students in this class love school and learning. Reading is the favorite subject!

My Project

My students need books to improve literacy including How to Eat Fried Worms, Jake Drake Bully Buster, and Marvin Redpost Why Pick On Me. As a classroom teacher, my goal is to use best practices to develop reading, writing, thinking, speaking, and listening skills in my students. Small sets of the same books for "book clubs" would put a book in the hands of every student in my classroom and allow them access to rich literature that will deepen their thinking and foster important talk and dialog. If every student has access to their own book, they are better able to find text evidence to support their thinking and engage in determining the meaning of important vocabulary words. Students will be able to come together as a class and discuss how their books connect to one another. It will allow ALL students to be engaged and have ownership of their learning.

Having small sets for "book clubs" will enhance the learning experience for every student in my classroom.

All readers will follow along in their copies while practicing appropriate fluency and expression and will be exposed to higher levels of thinking and dialog. These novels will provide the appropriate level of challenge for all learners and will, without a doubt, bring the love of reading back to the classroom!
