Book Clubs Are Fun!

My students need 4 copies each of 2 books, plus 4 sets of Reluctant Readers titles, that will grab their attention so that they will want to pick up a book and not put it down.

My Students

Do you want to read about a subject that is boring to you and then talk about it with a small group? My students struggle with finding texts that interest them. With these books the students would want to read and then be able to discuss the text.

Our students come from all different backgrounds.

85% free and reduced lunch and 98% diversity, our school rocks! The students love coming to school. They are hard workers but haven't had the resources other places have to offer. Most of our students come from homes where English is their second language so there is that struggle too. Our teachers are great. They have high expectations for all the students.

My Project

With these books the students can have book clubs and work on comprehension. The book clubs would be small so that each member would be able to talk about and explain why they feel that way about a character or their story. The book titles selected are interesting and would keep their attention. There are enough titles that we could have book clubs the whole year. This would be great for developing vocabulary, increasing fluency, and comprehension.

Having these small groups of reluctant readers together and really getting into the topic is exciting.

If they are interested in the book they are going to want to continue reading. These reluctant readers are the ones we need to grab hold of and nurture their love for reading. Once they feel successful they will want to keep going.
