This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our district is one of the most diverse districts in the Houston area with over 80 languages spoken in its schools. My elementary school is a perfect example of all of the diversity that has to offer.
We are a Title 1 school that also offers programs for English Language Learners (bilingual classes), Special Education students, and gifted students.
My Project
Every year, I host a Library Book Club for several of my 3rd and 4th graders. The students would benefit by being able to choose from a variety of novels to read.
By having their own books, it will help increase their success in reading and in our group discussions.
This year, my students will be beginning the year learning at home with remote learning. The school will be closed due to the COVID-19 virus for an unknown amount of time and this presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to purchase books or the library.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
