Book Club Meets Technology

My students need fresh and engaging book club books and a Microsoft Surface tablet to create book trailers and QR codes to share their literary experiences.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My book club classes are hungry for more books! They have read almost all of the book club books we have for them and it is only week 5! Other students aren't interested in reading. The book club kids could inspire them through the use of technology!

The book club teens are from a low socio-economic background and attend a Title 1 school.

This, however, has not gotten in their way of developing a love of reading! Somehow, they have become insatiable for print. They have had the privilege of being placed in a book club during school hours. They choose their own books, meet daily to discuss academically what they have read, create projects based on their books, and, most importantly, they share their interest in books with their friends. These readers are absolutely crucial in the quest to inspire other non-readers. They talk about their books to anyone who will listen.

My Project

The sets of books will allow the students to have a wide variety of books to choose from in their book club library which will last through the rest of the school year. Reading selections range from non-fiction, inspirational stories to popular dystopian fiction. The kids are quickly running out of book club books to read. They need these books in order to continue book club. The Microsoft Surface tablet would be used to create book trailers (much like movie trailers) and QR codes to link to the trailers. Our vision is to have the book club kids create these trailers and QR codes as a way to share what they have read with others in an engaging and relevant way so that the self proclaimed non-readers might become interested in reading.

Without the book club books, book club cannot continue for long.

The fire of excitement created by this amazing group of readers cannot be allowed to die out by lack of books. The fire must be spread to other readers by way of relevant technology, using the Microsoft Surface tablet. Help the book club kids continue in their quest for great books and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
