My Students
I'm the librarian of a Title I high school in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. Our student population consists of tenth, eleventh, and twelveth grade students. All of our student body receives free lunch. Many are reluctant readers who read more than two levels below grade level. However, despite the obstacles they face, our students are curious and motivated to learn. They just need more tools to encourage them to do so. They are incredibly creative and talented kids who are determined to make their mark in the world.
My Project
I am requesting five Kindle Fire tablets as prizes to reward the diligent readers who participate in our Book Bowl. These students will then be able to access the digital library that we currently offer, and a wide array of other features that will help to further their literacy skills. Many of our students do not have the means to buy their own tablets or Kindles, and having such an amazing prize would truly mean the world to them. It would also encourage many other students to attempt to compete in the following years.
Of course, the true prize is the joy that comes from reading, but I feel that these Kindles would truly motivate and reward our students.
These students work hard throughout the year and deserve a special reward for their efforts. We would never be able to provide such a special prize for our students without the help of donors like you! Thank you in advance for your consideration of our project!
