Book Bowl! An Online Reading Competition!

My students need these 8 book sets to read in order to participate in an online reading competition against students in other states. It is called Book Bowl!

My Students

The fun of meeting new friends and sharing the love of a good book! The thrill of competing in our first annual online reading competition, the Book Bowl! All they need are the books that need to be read in order to prepare for the competition.

My students are highly motivated, critical thinkers, who love integrating technology into the classroom as much as I do!

They are a diverse group of public school students in Delaware, (race, religion, level of instruction), who are motivated to learn. They love sharing their knowledge, and as 21st century learners, they have learned a number of ways to do this! Their learning is not limited to our classroom!

My Project

Reading for reading's sake is great! It increases vocabulary, exposes students to other places, and expands the mind. The Book Bowl idea was generated by 5th grade teachers who talk to each other on Twitter and who thought this would be great to do with our students. My students will not only have the joy of reading, but they will also connect with students from around the country, online, and join in in-depth book discussions via Edmodo. In May, they will participate in our first annual Book Bowl! The students will have a chance to show off their knowledge about these books!

This project is important for many reasons.

First and foremost, my students are reading. They will be involved in online discussions with students around the country about the books they are reading. They are making global connections. They are competing and using the skills they have acquired while reading these books!
