My students need an accessible classroom library that allows them to shop for books that are organized into book bins according to their reading level.

My Students
My students are eager to learn and curious about everything around them. Most of them come from low income households and have access to very few educational resources. Almost all of my students come from homes where there is no exposure to English. Despite this challenge, my children come to school every day with a smile on their face and ready to take on the day.
More than half of my students are reading 1-2 years below grade level.
Many of them enter Kindergarten with no familiarity of the English language. As a result, they fall behind in all subject areas. Regardless of the challenges we face as a class, the children's passion for learning and desire for success is unmatched. My students are resilient and lovable and depend on me and my classroom environment for structure and security.
My Project
My current classroom library is not accessible to my students. The bins are cracked and books fall all over the shelves and onto the floor. This makes it incredibly difficult for my young 1st graders to shop for books that interest them. The current condition of our book bins is also hazardous to a six year old. They often scratch their hands when reaching inside for a good book.
New book bins will organize my classroom library and make it a place where my students feel comfortable and confident finding books on their independent reading level.
I will be able to create a library that is categorized by the student's reading levels and genres that excite and interest them. This will allow my students to shop for books that are not too easy or too difficult for them. In return, their reading levels will improve and their confidence levels will sky rocket.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
