This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are changing achievement for English language learners every day. Our students read, write, and ponder in Spanish and English. Half of our students come from Spanish speaking households and about half from English speaking households with a few other languages sprinkled in. Each student is strengthening their language skills in their native language and in their second language which is giving them a chance, a chance to understand more from books, and more from each person they meet. Most importantly, they will have a chance to graduate from high school and have options for where to go for college.
My Project
We have already gained tremendous momentum with the funds raised for the books themselves. Now we need books bins to organize and house our books. This will allow students to more easily find the books and move on to the next book quickly extending their time reading instead of searching shelves. Once students are wrapped up in a book series, they will be more likely to continue reading on their own, leading to further academic success and life possibilities.
I am requesting 18 small colored book bins to separate books series as well as fiction from non-fiction.
The larger bins will be for the bigger picture books, most of which are our bilingual selection. Thank you for your support!
