Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I believe children are the future. Teach them well and let them lead the way." These are not only words from a popular song but a strong belief that I hold as a teacher.

Unfortunately for the students in my class, envisioning the future is not something they think of or talk about, because their daily existence is so challenging.

I teach in a socio-economic area at a Title 1 school where 98% of the population receives free breakfast and lunch at school. On most days the heartiest and healthiest meals that the students receive are what they eat at school. It isn't unusual for the students in my class to stockpile food in their desks to take home in order to have something to eat later that day.

Despite the harsh circumstances and backdrops of their lives. The students come to school daily with a smile on their face. I know that a great education is the key to them becoming happy, productive and successful adults. I want to instill a love of learning in them while they are young that will guide them throughout their educational career. I want to start a spark that cannot be dimmed.

My Project

I want to instill a love of learning in my little ones. My classroom is safe and vibrant environment. Unfortunately for my students when they return home the joy of learning is not supported.

These take-home book bags will allow me to send a variety of learning materials home with each child.

It is important that there is a home school connection between the children, parents and myself. The children will take pride in reading a book at home, that we read in class. Parents can see what we are learning in school and read to their youngster, or listen to them read.

By donating to our project you will help my students to understand that learning does not stop when they exit the classroom. You will also be helping to teach them responsibility by learning how to care for their materials.

There is nothing more heart breaking than hearing a first grader tell you, that they could not complete their homework because they didn't have a pencil, crayons or a book to read.

Your donation will help to empower by students by making them smart from the start!
