My Students

My students are funny, smart, charismatic, curious, polite kids who learn how to be responsible little leaders each day we spend together. They see school as an opportunity to be themselves while learning but more importantly, a place they feel special and loved. My kids come from low income/high poverty and don't have much. I've always felt it was very important to provide them with resources to help them become problem solvers in academics and in their lives. Our school/district does not have the finances to provide us with much. Over the years, I have purchased many materials for my students to ensure they had creative, hands-on, engaging and relevant materials to be successful.

These kids are lacking the initiative to "learn" because it has been such a struggle.

My Project

Our district has adopted the new Science standards. However, they have not adopted any curriculum or materials. My students have NO SCIENCE curriculum, books, workbooks etc.

The Scholastic readers and book sets will be a great asset.

We currently do no not have any materials to go with our new Science curriculum being implemented this year. The students will use these in addition to teacher created materials for Social Living during the year which is a combination of Science and Social Studies. This will be a huge help and financial burden lifted off of my shoulders. It is very costly to run copies and print activities and games for the entire class with ZERO resources provided to assist.
