My Students
On the cusp of qualifying as a teenager, my sixth grade students walk to the beat of their own drum. Each individual is working on developing their personality and deciding who they are going to be when they are older. Their future is a cacophony of melodies that they have yet to understand.
Yet through all this confusion, they can come into my classroom and know that they are valued, loved and part of my family.
From the moment they enter through my classroom door, they know they belong and will be accepted for who they are and what they bring to the table as long as they never stop trying. Albert Einstein said, "You never fail until you stop trying." These kids never give up! They inspire me to find my best self and to keep trying every day.
My Project
I am requesting 30 "Boogie Boards" (a.k.a. electronic writing tablets) for them to show their thought process without using up paper. We use the traditional whiteboards all the time. Through the use of the whiteboard, I can easily observe the students' thought process and it is a simple way for them to present their work. They can also use the white boards to write down and work through example problems for practice.
However, markers dry up and the erasers crumble.
The white boards also don't stay so "white" after repeated use. Students need to fish through the dry erase markers to find one that works, wasting valuable learning time or maybe even missing the lesson altogether.
With these "Boogie Boards" (Electronic Tablets), students will be able to show their thinking; share their learning; and remain fully engaged through the entire lesson! By donating to this project, you will help students devote more time to active learning and ultimately help them to achieve more academically. Also, the Electronic Tablets are more sustainable than whiteboards - which constantly need new markers and erasers! Furthermore, this is another form of technology to help students become more technology adept individuals.
The use of Boogie Boards will benefit this generation of students in my classroom and more students to come in the future!
