Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten in a low-income, high-need area. My school is a Title I Alabama Reading Initiative School. My school consists of 74% free and reduced lunch and where 42 % of its students come from ethnic backgrounds. My students love to listen to me as I read them stories.
I love being able to teach from children's picture books.
Books are such a valuable tool for teaching and learning. My students love to see real pictures in books that show exactly what I am reading about. For example, if we are talking about a particular spider and what kind of web it spins, they think it is awesome to see a real picture of that particular spider. We want more books that give factual information with real pictures. My students also love to hear non-fiction books that just capture their imaginations. They can really run wild with these types of books so I want to add more to our library that I can share with them.
My Project
That is where I need your help. My classroom needs a library of fiction and non-fiction stories to help us learn important information and to just be creative and have fun. Having these books will allow me to share more information with my students, which in return will give them the knowledge to become successful learners. This organization has been such a resource to my classroom and I hope you help my classroom have continued success.
Your generosity will give my students a library full of books to facilitate their learning.
Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal and for being interested in helping our students to take their education to a higher level.
