My Students
Our school is now in it's second year, since opening in 2016. As a founding member of my school, I feel a strong connection with all of the students and want to see it thrive. The school is Title One and the students come from a large array of ethnic and economic backgrounds. The students get an opportunity to be fully immersed with Spanish in our bilingual education program, as we are working to create global citizens with twenty-first century skills, and it is truly exciting to see the positive impact of bilingualism on their overall cognitive development.
My Project
In order to grow into amazing readers, my kids need book sets for small-group guided reading instruction. Guided reading is critical for their reading development.
In the past, I have printed out leveled books for use during guided reading instruction.
While the texts are great, they get easily beat up (gotta love Kindergarten!) and are not the most aesthetically pleasing. Whenever my students get to read with a "real" (bound) book during our small group time, their eyes light up with excitement. My students really treasure their small group time and love to read, but I don't have enough leveled readers to last through the year. These books would help not only my students this year, but students for years to come!
