My students need a collection of cookbooks for exploring ethnic cuisine.

My Students
My students need enrichment and the kind of welcome-mat-to-the-world that foreign cuisine can bring. Our school's small, rural town lacks diversity and has no foreign eateries. I challenge students to explore other cultures as much as possible, but rural isolation poses obstacles.
My students live in a farming community in Missouri.
Too many do not have regular access to the Internet or a public library. My students' school reflects the rather homogeneous community that they live in. A general lack of experience with other cultures allows stereotypes to flourish. I am impressed that they want to learn about other cultures and hope that world food exploration can broaden their horizons.
My Project
I have selected a variety of cookbooks from countries around the world. Students may borrow the books to take home and explore world food with their families. The books include recipes and information about other countries including China, Morocco, India, Mexico, France, Thailand, and more!
The ability to appreciate and enjoy other cultures can give my students educational and career opportunities that they presently do not have.
Thanks to global communications, the world is an increasingly smaller place. I want my students to have the opportunity to join and enjoy the global community!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
