Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The speakers that I currently have are tinny and awful to listen to. When we are trying to listen to a book being read outloud or a video for class, it's actually really difficult to hear individual voices and the sound is muddy.

We need speakers that can play read-alouds of our books so students can follow along in their books and increase their reading comprehension.

It's proven that students' reading comprehension is increased when reading along with a strong reader: I record myself reading books out loud so that I don't blow out my voice every day, and we need speakers that can play them loud enough for students to hear over the turn of a page. We also use short videos as practice for taking notes on oral presentations, and students need to be able to hear the video shorts that we sometimes use in class. Additionally, when we do our study of the Harlem Renaissance, we listen to performances of poems and plays of the time, and it is an entirely different experience listening to the scratchy sounds of an LP recording of a play from the 1920s. These are all the experiences I want my amazingly intelligent students to benefit from!

As a 7th grade, we like to use a portable speaker for music in the hallway when students have earned a day of celebration or for a Town Hall assembly celebration for the Honor Roll. The Bluetooth Speaker with Double Subwoofer is portable so the entire 7th grade can share this speaker when anyone else might need it (that's a total of 240 7th graders that would get to benefit from it!)

We also always need glue sticks to glue notes into our notebooks, and multiple colors of band-aids for students.
