Bodacious Book Club

My students need 15 copies each of "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Freckle Juice". Each student would benefit from having their own copy of delightful chapter books to foster their love of literature.

My Students

Do you remember when a book first captured your imagination or made you laugh out loud? I want to give that experience to my students! I would like them to have engaging books that will help them love literature.

The students at my school are awesome and energetic.

They come to school excited to learn and use their imaginations. I teach a reading intervention program and my students come to me to receive extra reading help. Our school is a large city school in Southern California. We are a designated low-income school with 100% free lunch. Many of my students do not regularly visit the local library or bookstores and therefore don't have a lot of books at their disposal. They also need more time to read with the assistance of a teacher. That is why I am starting an after school book club for 15 second and third grade students. We will be meeting three afternoons a week to read and discuss highly interesting books.

My Project

I am excited to be starting this book club. Watching a child discover the joy of books is amazing. In addition, when a child becomes a good reader, their grades in all subjects improve. Reading really is the key to success in all of academics. Therefore, I am requesting 15 copies of the books "How to Train your Dragon" and "Freckle Juice." I have picked these books from the recommended literature suggestions for grades 2 &3 and also because they are high interest chapter books for 7-9 year old kids. I know they would each love to have their own individual copy of each book we will cover. Not only do I know my students will love these books, I feel it is important for them to have their own books that they can highlight in, bookmark, and eventually bring home to start building their own library.

Your help in supporting this project ensures that students have fun reading material to use in our book club.

I believe that if I can show my students that reading is fun and interesting they will become lifelong readers. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this proposal.
