it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hard working and optimistic about the future. Our school strives to promote and cultivate a college-ready mindset in every student because only a quarter of of my students report having a family member attend college.
If you ask my students what motivates them to succeed, they would talk about their family.
Despite facing many challenges, my students come to school ready to learn and be their best in order to make themselves, their family, and their community proud. Every day I am humbled that I get to be their teacher because they recognize the power of education.
My Project
My students need 40 whiteboards and whiteboard markers to solve problem and 15000 sheets of copy paper for handouts. The copy paper will help my Algebra 1 Tutorial students have handouts on a daily basis. There is no textbook for this class, and students need graphic organizers and other worksheets copied for them.
Allowing students to practice a problem and receive immediate feedback is one of the most effective ways to help students learn and progress because it gets them actively involved in learning.
The whiteboards and whiteboard markers will be used in math class to frequently check for understanding. This strategy also reveals common misconceptions or mistakes that need to be corrected so that students leave class knowing the correct way to solve a problem.
