My Project
I am a teacher of Multilingual Learners in Brooklyn, NY. This year I will be teaching in four different classrooms in our school, meeting with groups of students from all over the world who speak seven different languages. My job is to support these students in learning English WHILE they tackle grade-level work in reading, writing, listening and speaking. It's a lot for them AND they're amazing young people who already know so much about the world, language learning, adjusting to living in new places, and trying to be a pre-teen making friends in a new country using a newer language. When I go into their classrooms, I am the second teacher in the room and I work with small groups of students at a time. This is great, but I don't have boards to write on, which makes the lesson that much harder to manage.
Mobile whiteboards would help our class learn!
Young people love to come up to the board, share their work with their classmates, and see examples written on the board. We will also use the board to practice writing together-- peer editing is a process that helps middle school students learn to edit their own writing (and one that they love).
