My Project

Today, when faced with a world of technology in all shapes and sizes, we see that our students and youth need to connect with others more than ever. Board games are a great way to create these moments of connection between students not only for social interaction purposes, but building communication, critical thinking, strategy, and decision-making skills. Offering this opportunity allows students to strengthen and build personal relationships and provides positive shared experiences in person to bring them together when they need it most.

Providing engaging learning through playing board games is an appealing opportunity for teens to build growth on all academic levels as well.

I want to focus on not only game playing skills, but also using the topic and concepts of the game for further research and academic discovery. If they are playing a game based on mythology, what better avenue than to ask them to research some aspect of mythology that is inspired by their curiosity in the game. Perhaps it is a game based on a specific time period in history thus directing their research to that time period. My goal is to allow students to guide their own learning based off the concepts and topics of the various board games that are available. Combining the skills and fun of playing board games with the research and writing expectations in a classroom to create enthusiasm for learning.
