My Students
Our classroom is filled with 26 diverse students who each contribute uniquely to the classroom environment. The school they attend is the smallest in our district in a rural part of Oregon.
Almost all of my students in our Title 1 school, do not have access to developmentally appropriate materials outside of school.
Despite their economic and personal hardships, these students come to school ready to learn and full of enthusiasm. For these students, school is a warm, safe, and caring environment and I strive each day to nurture the classroom community we have built within our classroom and foster a love for learning in each student.
My Project
My students need high quality, strategy based games like Battleship, Monopoly, Yahtzee, and Sleeping Queens that will help develop their critical thinking and social skills. Learning how to move the pieces around the board also supports strategic thinking, problem solving, concentration, perseverance, and reinforces basic math skills.
Enriching our classroom with quality games will help build essential skills like predicting cause and effect, strategy and planning and reason and logic.
By playing STEM based strategy games, my students will develop important skills, become better problem solvers, and increase their memory capacity.
Knowing that most of my students have not had exposure to these games, it is my hope that you will see the value of this project and that your generous support will be the opportunity for my second graders to have the chance to learn and have fun while developing their logic and reasoning skills.
