This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Since the beginning of the year, I have struggled to get students to build relationships during our advisory time. Students seem quiet, distanced and they do not want to interact with each other.
However, I have discovered something that brings out their inner social beings: board games.
By having a variety of board games available, students can interact in positive ways, learning from each other and breaking down the barriers of social stigma. I have been slowly teaching them chess online, but would love to have real boards to play with to further the benefit of being back in-person.
Your contribution will help purchase 10 sets for chess, checkers and backgammon. We will start by learning the basics of each game and then expand into strategies to help them understand the game in a more fundamental way. These could also be used for a chess club which I may choose to start in the future.
