This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My amazing group of third graders this year are eager and asking to grow their brains. This group of students are creative, hardworking, and unique.
With limited access to resources, my students still have a strong desire to learn.
Most come from low-income households. In addition, all are served free breakfast and lunch. Despite financial challenges, they come to school every morning ready to learn and are always giving their best. They deserve to have the chance to play childhood boardgames that are fun but enriching.
My Project
Our classrrom needs a variety of board games available for students to use during indoor recess (rainy days) and our 30 min. "Fun Fridays." My students crave genuine and fun interactions with their peers. With limited access to board games at home they have asked me to purchase specific games they would love to challenge eachother with. My students who speak English as a second language would definatly benefit by playing games with their peers to increase their English vocabulary in a fun way.
Games teach students how to use critical thinking skills, develop and apply strategies, and practice communication skills, all while providing opportunities to make fun memories with their peers.
A game library will make it easy and fun for my students to verbally connect instead of using technology. Playing board games provides a fun way to spend quality time together, which ultimately supports, nurtures, and develops critical thinking.
More than half of students from low‑income households
