Help me give my students an opportunity to play board games during indoor recess to help increase classroom community as well as teach them life skills through games.
My students all come from diverse, urban backgrounds. They are amazing kids who love to learn in comfortable, positive, learning environments. Most of my students come from backgrounds that are extremely stressful and I would love to give my kids a comfortable learning environment where they feel relaxed, a place where they can read and write with comfort and a learning community that increases their enthusiasm. For some of them, school is all they have as a positive influence in their lives.
My Project
Coming from low income households, many of my students do not have the opportunity to play board games at home with their families. Board games require many life skills such as sharing, taking turns, patience, strategy, reading and following directions, math skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and more. Many of my students do not have these skills, because they have not been exposed to games that require them to do so. My students would love to have the opportunity to play board games during their indoor recess time, which we have four times a week. Actually giving them options for games they could play with their classmates will excite them, and cause them not to just sit around during this time and tell me they are “bored”. Please consider donating to my class so they can play these classic games and learn different life skills along the way!
