My Students
Do you remember listening to your favorite story as a kid? Many of my students do not have the resources to hear different stories to be able to choose a favorite.
There are 25 students in my Kindergarten class.
Nine students speak another language at home. The parents do not all know how to read in English and don't have access to books to read in their native languages. Many of my students come from low income homes where everyone works. Many families even work nights and are not home to read to their children.
My Project
These three mp3 players will allow my students to listen to a wide range of books. This will increase their vocabularies. They will be able to access books that will support their reading skills to encourage continued growth. They will also be given the opportunity to learn their own preferences in books and choose what to listen to according to those preferences.
The students in my room are at the beginning of their reading journeys.
They listen and follow along with new stories and 'old favorites' ravenously. My goal is to build in as many opportunities as possible to encourage them on this journey.
More than half of students from low‑income households
