Blossoming Butterflies

My project needs one housing for the butterflies, the larvae and food, as well as supplementary supplies like videos and Butterfly Bingo for a class of 10 students to learn about the raising of butterflies.

This project is fully funded

I am a teacher at South Providence School. We are an alternative school for 6th-12th grade. I work with 6th-8th graders in a self-contained setting, incorporating all core content areas. My class is interested in raising butterflies as a way to learn their life cycle, as well as to demonstrate that they can be responsible citizens. The idea is that we will raise butterflies in the netted setting provided and learn the various stages that they go through as they become butterflies. We will then release them into nature and write papers along each stage. In order to do this, we need the housing for the butterflies, the actual specimens, and the food to feed them. We would also require supplementary materials to help learn about the growth process, such as life models, books, and videos. This project would allow the children to demonstrate that they can be responsible for a living thing. It allows them to show their softer side, as they are normally seen as out of control and misbehaved.
