"Go the extra mile, it's never crowded". This is how I would describe my passion for teaching. I work with small intervention groups all day which are comprised of English Language Learners of all levels. The majority of these students lack background knowledge and need as much support possible.
Our school is made up of 60% English Language Learners.
These English Language Learners are made up of immigrant students or students from immigrant families. Lately many of our immigrant students have been coming from war torn areas lacking much prior knowledge and lacking even prior schooling for some. But they are the most eager and motivated students. They look forward to school and appreciate every minute of it. The smiles on their faces are priceless.
My Project
My students will use the iPad minis in small groups daily during literacy. They will be able to utilize the various educational apps available to improve their reading, writing, and phonemic awareness. It will serve as independent practice and be tied to the skills I will be teaching them. For example, if we are working on the short a sound, then during independent work, the students will be able to practice that concept using a certain app and master it.
Donations to this project will aid in closing the gap between English Language Learners and non-English Language Learners.
By providing our students with more resources, students will be able to accelerate in their learning process. This project will help provide more engaging and meaningful learning opportunities.
