Blooming Buds - High School Student Community Gardening Project
Help me give my students the ability to recycle cans and bottles! We want to use the recyclables as a fund raiser to help buy gardening equipment and starter plants for our community garden.

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Nestled within the vibrant community of Santa Ana, California, our high school isn't just a place of academic learning; it's a breeding ground for future change-makers. Our students, passionate social justice warriors, are not content with simply learning about the world's challenges; they're determined to tackle them head-on.
Santa Ana, despite its many strengths, faces a critical issue: it's a food desert, leaving many of our families grappling with food insecurity.
Recognizing this, our 10th graders have embarked on an ambitious, multi-phase project to make a tangible difference.
Phase 1: The journey began with a simple conversation with the head of our local community gardens. The insight was eye-opening – our city's gardens, Nestled within the vibrant community of Santa Ana, California, our high school isn't just a place of academic learning; it's a breeding ground for future change-makers. Our students, passionate social justice warriors, are not content with simply learning about the world's challenges; they're determined to tackle them head-on.
Phase 2: Action turned into impact as our students rallied the community, amassing a dedicated team of 40 volunteers (and growing) to rejuvenate and maintain these gardens. Their commitment has not only brought fresh life to the gardens but has also nurtured a sense of unity and purpose within our community.
Phase 3: Now, we stand at the brink of an even greater challenge – ensuring the sustainability of our efforts. Our school currently lacks a formal recycling program, missing out on a crucial opportunity to support our environmental and project goals. Here's where we need your help. By funding our initiative to purchase recycling bins for classrooms, we can launch a recycling program that not only supports our gardens financially but also instills a culture of environmental responsibility among our students.
