Help me give my students a new block shelf to better organize our block area!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ruiz's classroom raised $466

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Head Start program in South Chicago. A majority of our students come from low-income families. Many of my students are also dual language learners. Most of my students join my classroom at just three years of age and stay with us until they transition to kindergarten.
Having the opportunity to watch my students grow, develop new skills, and learn over a two year period is extremely rewarding.
I get to see them come in as shy three's and walk out as confident five's. Although many of my students come from low-income families, their curiosity, their energy, and their eagerness to come to school to socialize and learn are inspiring!
My Project
Our block area is one of the busiest areas of our classroom. Our students enjoy building using the various types of blocks we have. Our unit block shelf is the tallest shelf in our classroom, but this also makes it difficult to configure because of its height. It’s also one of the oldest shelves we have, and it’s missing a divider. This new block storage shelf from Kaplan will help us to better organize our unit blocks, and the height of the shelf will also make it possible for our youngest students to reach the top of the shelf (where we keep our play dinosaurs)
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
