The way students feel when they enter the classroom is so important. When I walk into a cozy coffee shop, I am inspired. A few years ago, I changed my classroom environment to make it have a coffee shop feel. One of my favorite additions was a bistro table and stools in our classroom library section. Of course, everyone wanted to sit at that table, so I had to figure out a fair way to give each student a chance at the beloved space.
I decided to make the incentive about reading.
Each time a student completes a book, they get to write their name on a ticket and put it in a coffee cup for a weekly drawing. Not only do the students get a week sitting at the table, but he/she get to have a hot beverage during class on the last day of the week. The smiles that a simple cup of hot chocolate, apple cider, or tea brings to their faces are priceless.
Needless to say, I ran out of supplies at the end of the year and need to restock for the upcoming school year. I'm asking for cups, drink supplies, and new stools. Each year, I try to make my class even better than the year before, and I always appreciate your support in making my dreams a reality. Thanks for looking at this project!
